The Brazilian Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels Institute (IBP) is a non-profit organization that works comprehensively across the oil, gas, and biofuels value chain and is a recognized institutional representative for the oil and gas sector. Its independent, non-partisan and transparent practices and efforts work to forge collaboration among industry stakeholders to build credibility among businesses, society, and government.
 
In the technical domain, IBP expert committees are the basis of our intellectual capital. They provide inputs into publications, research, standards, and programs, and help to identify industry requirements to inform the organization of training programs and events. IBP provides a platform for experience sharing, knowledge building and collaboration among representatives from the different industry segments. Thought leadership in innovation, technology, management and sustainability practices in Brazil and around the world is regularly provided in conferences spanning every area of IBP, supporting the industry’s future vision.
 
In the regulatory and institutional domain, IBP speaks for the oil, gas and biofuels industry in forums and public meetings on industry regulation, taxation, and oversight. IBP’s essential role as a representative of the industry is widely recognized by regulators, the various levels of government and Congress.

Our members are our community and we use this ‘ethos’ to inform all our decision-making.  The changes we have made with regard to rolling membership, the new database, increased engagement with the regional groups etc. have all been to increase the strength and engagement of the GESGB energy geoscience community. 

There is still much work to do, gender diversity needs further research as the gender split is 23% women and 77% men and we would be interested how this would be played out across the other Societies.

Opportunities to continue and build on the partnerships between GESGB and other Societies that lead to an increase in benefits to our members.

The Council have the capacity to influence and inform the GESGB’s activities and the membership communications.

Technical Excellence

Technical Excellence informs all the elements of education that the Society provides for the membership.  We are not an academic Society like the Geological Society of London, we are here for the people who work, have worked, or want to work in the Petroleum industries and arguably the technical content for this group will be the very best as there is tangible investment in knowledge within this industry.  The technical content is not just for work for the members but also for leisure as we offer field trips and events with highly knowledgeable leaders who encourage discussion and enjoy passionate exchange on the given topic.

The GESGB office team look to the Council to make decisions based on the technical value of topics, presentations and courses.

New initiatives developed as part of the partnership agreements and making use of our training space. Visiting lecturers from other Societies and debates around issues and theories.

FIRJAN is a private non-profit organization with more than ten thousand associates that promote the growth of industry in Rio de Janeiro. FIRJAN is comprised of five institutions that work in an integrated manner to fulfill its mission. The Industrial Center of Rio de Janeiro (CIRJ), the Industry Social Service of the State of Rio de Janeiro (SESI Rio), the National Industrial Training Service of the State of Rio de Janeiro (SENAI Rio) and the Euvaldo Lodi Institute of Rio de Janeiro (IEL Rio) promote actions in economic, political and social levels to ensure the state of RJ figures prominently national and international business opportunities.

The Canadian Society of Exploration Geophysicists (CSEG) is the registered not-for-profit professional society of geophysicists. The objective of the Society is to promote the science of geophysics, especially as it applies to exploration, and to promote fellowship and co-operation among those persons interested in geophysical prospecting. The CSEG is aimed at promoting the development of geophysical knowledge, education and public awareness. Based in Calgary, we are a Canadian professional society with initiatives all across Canada.

The National Organization of the Petroleum Industry (ONIP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to building consensus that allows for expanding competencies, maximizing the participation of the national industry, and fosters innovation for productivity gains to increase export performance. The organization is structured to play a leading role in developing the petroleum market and to become the reference centre for different business environments.
 
ONIP represents entities and companies in the petroleum market and the supply chain of goods and services in the sector. To develop a more competitive market, ONIP links the national and international oil and gas market and works to improve and promote the business environment through business roundtables and meetings that provide opportunities for co-operation and innovation in the petroleum industry.

The European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) is a global professional, not-for-profit association for geoscientists and engineers with approximately 19,000 members worldwide. It provides a global network of commercial and academic professionals to all members. The association is truly multi-disciplinary and international in form and pursuits. All members of EAGE are professionally involved in (or studying) geophysics, petroleum exploration, geology, reservoir engineering, mining and mineral exploration, civil engineering, tunneling and environmental matters.

The Group endeavours to cover all aspects of the upstream petroleum business activities within the region and comprises a wide range of members – majors, regional players, small and mid-size independents, niche players and start-ups, as well as NOCs and licensing authorities. Representatives from contractor companies, geological consultants and geoscientists can also attend. 

The meetings take place twice a year, in early May and early October. Each time they are hosted by a different member company in a different country. The CEEC Scout Group meetings represent key events in the petroleum business with a two and a half-day program including technical and commercial presentations covering the host country and a geological field trip. 

The CEEC Scout Group provides an excellent way to network, to exchange experiences with other operators, to learn about the best practices in the field and about the regional geology. Furthermore, the Group provides an important platform for the Government Authorities to promote their countries’ acreage. It is also an important farm-out forum.
